Steven (Steve) van der Plas was born in Alkmaar, Netherlands on the 24th of June 1968. He was a toddler when Dutch footballer, Johan Cruyff, made the "Cruyff Turn" famous at the World Cup. Steve was a teenager when the Oosterscheldedam, a sophisticated sea storm barrier, first became operational.
After Steve had migtrated to Australia in 2001, the OECD ranked Holland as the world's happiest country but ranked his new home of Sydney as one of the world's most liveable cities.
Steve would live to see some intriguing historical moments unfold on a global stage. Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin would feed a crocodile at his theme park, Australia Zoo, while holding his one-month old baby son, Bob. The incident generated a great deal of criticism both nationally and internationally. Australia commenced a free trade agreement with the USA and Jennifer Hawkins won the Miss Universe contest held in Ecuador.
Steve passed away in Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Missenden Road, Camperdown, New South Wales, on the 13th of April 2016. Steve is loved, missed and remembered by all who share in the remarkable story of Steve's lifetime.
